THE WOODLEY BOWLING CLUB

The Woodley Bowling Club was founded in 1964

The Club was started by the Russell brothers Frank, Bill and Harry Russell the builder together with Ernie Scott and other Members.

The green was laid in 1963 and the first match was played in June 1964.

When the club was formed there was no club house and at that time tea was made in the shed of one of the council workers. Members changed in the hut which is now used by the Woodley Town Council grounds men to store their equipment.

The new Clubhouse was built in 1982 with a grant from the Sports Council and a loan and grant from Wokingham Borough Council. John Keene and Brian Matthews had a big hand in arranging the grants and loans.

In 1998 the Clubhouse was extended, again by the members to the current size it is today.

In 2024 we now celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Club.
